Framed: 24 x 20 1/2 inches.Original paper sheet is laid to a canvas support, with edges appearing to be slightly unevenly trimmed; canvas support is taped to a back mat on upper right and left corners verso; overall rippling to sheet; uneven toning around image perimeter; some pigment loss is visible on the glass verso. We are grateful to Les Amis de Paul-César Helleu for confirming the authenticity of this lot, which has been registered in their archive as n°: APCH PA-8500.The present portrait depicts the British musical-comedy star Kathlene Martyn (1900-1971). In 1919, she moved to New York and joined Ziegfeld's Midnight Frolic and later the Ziegfeld Girls show. Her nickname was "The Butterfly Girl," as she frequently wore a costume adorned with butterflies.
